DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
The National Academy of Defence Financial Management (NADFM) is the apex training institution for the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS). Its mission is to foster professional excellence, ethical conduct, and strategic financial acumen in furtherance of robust defence financial stewardship.
Established in 1978 at Meerut as the National Institute of Management and Accounts (NIMA) and rechristened as the National Academy of Defence Financial Management on its relocation to Pune in 2004, the Academy has evolved in step with the growing strategic importance of defence finance. This journey reflects our commitment to building robust defence financial systems that underpin national security objectives.
Over the years, NADFM has built a strong legacy by strengthening core capabilities in financial advice, accounting, internal audit and payments, while progressively embedding defence economics and outcome-oriented public financial management. Officers trained at the Academy have contributed significantly to fiscal discipline, transparency and efficient utilisation of defence resources, serving with distinction in India as well as in UN Peacekeeping Missions and in neighbouring countries such as Bhutan.
In a significant step towards future readiness, NADFM is in the process of establishing a new, state-of-the-art campus at Sangvi, Pune, spread over 13 acres, which will provide modern academic, residential and digital infrastructure aligned in line with best-in-class standards for training institutions. Further, under the National Standards for Civil Services Training Institutions (NSCSTI) framework, NADFM was among the early academies to be accredited, earning a 2-star (Ati-Uttam) rating. Building on this foundation, the Academy is presently aiming to achieve a 4-star (Ati-Utkrisht) accreditation in the immediate term and a 5-star (Sarvotkrisht) rating thereafter, positioning itself alongside the country’s most highly acclaimed Training Institutions.
Aligned with the Department’s mission of transformational excellence in defence finance and economics, and guided by the motto Alert, Agile and Adapt, NADFM is advancing contemporary defence economics, data-driven decision-making, technology-enabled learning and collaborations with other institutes, domain experts and academies to respond adaptively to evolving defence finance imperatives and national security objectives, while ensuring Efficiency, Economy, Effectiveness and Enterprise in public resource management.
It is a matter of honour and privilege for me to lead this prestigious training academy that shapes newly inducted IDAS officers and strengthens the capabilities of serving officers to meet current and future needs.
